Cayde sits back on the bench some, looking up at the ceiling thoughtfully.
"Uldren Sov," he says, the disappointment palpable. "You know, I thought a good deal about who might take me out. Morbid, maybe, but it's something you do when you know you got things to leave behind. I didn't even give him the time of day on that list, slimy little creep that he is. ...Was. Whatever."
He shakes his head. "Well. Now I know. Not a lot of people can say they know how they die." It's cold comfort. But the City's carrying on without him, of course it would. The lists of former Vanguard members for the Titans and Warlocks are exceptionally short. The Hunters? Much longer. That it was a matter of time was an unspoken but certain fact.
"I'm not worried about the Hunters. Well. I always worry about the Hunters a little, but we take care of ourselves. Always do. I didn't leave 'em an easy puzzle to solve, but hey. Swiftriver didn't leave one for me and Andal either. It'll turn out alright."
At least Uldren Sov is dead. Can you even imagine the implications otherwise? Cayde sure doesn't want to.
"Zavala and Ikora?"
That's the real question, the one that matters when you get down to it. He tries to leave that question casual, but Cayde can't quite mask how badly he needs to know how the Vanguard are holding up. He slipped out the back door, left them a funny little note, and never came back. They can keep doing their jobs, Zavala and Ikora are some of the toughest, stubbornest, smartest people Cayde has had the privilege to know. But... he hopes he didn't make that hurt more than it was always going to.
